Classification Of Computer
Nowadays computers are available in different sizes with different capabilities. On the basis of capacity of speed processing information computers are classified into four.
Supercomputer:
- Super computer are most powerful computer
- Physically they are large and much expensive
- System is built to process huge amount of data
- It can perform more than 1 trillion calculation per second
- These computer use to handle large and highly complex problems
- Super computer are rarely used in large corporations, universities & government agencies
Mainframe Computer:
- Mainframe computer is largest type of computer
- These computer are expensive
- Mainframe computers are powerful
- Each user works at a computer Terminal
- It can handle hundred or thousand of connected users at same time (Terminal)
- Mainframe computer can also store a vast range of data, instructions and information
- The computer are used in large organization such as banks, insurance companies and specially used in Airlines
- Basically used in networked environment because a single user can’t utilize their full processing power
- IBM S/390 is an example of mainframe computer
Minicomputer:
- Because of their small size, it got minicomputer name
- It have less process power
- These computer can support number of users I/O requirement
- Normally use in networked environment as server machine
- It is less expensive than mainframe
- HP 3000 is example of it
Microcomputer:
- Microcomputer is also called personal computer
- Microcomputer are typically developed for individual users
- Less powerful as compared to minicomputer
- It become popular because of its low price
- PCs become powerful day-by-day because of improvement in technology
- Users are using microcomputer for performing certain task
- These are also used in business, educational institutes etc
- Microcomputer are available in different model such as desktop computer, laptop computer, pocket computer
